Ever wonder who you’re related to? Are you curious about where your ancestors were from?
Then perhaps you should make your way to the Canton Historical Society when we host this FREE Genealogy Workshop.
You will learn the basics about where to look to find out about your roots; how to locate birth, death, and marriage certificates of your relatives; how to create and store a family tree; etc.
We hope the workshop will provide the attendees an opportunity to share their genealogy knowledge and enthusiasm, both during the workshop and in the future.
The workshop will be led by Jane Adams and Sam Howes.
Ms. Adams has been researching her family tree for over a decade. During this time, she has found a number of productive avenues. She will share her experiences with you and help you take your accumulated scribbled-down notes and put them into a more organized and accessible format. She will also provide information on how to avoid research “roadblocks” and “brick walls.”
Mr. Howes is the Canton Historical Society’s archivist. He is currently employed as the archivist at Bates College and worked previously for the Maine State Archives. Mr. Howes will share his vast experience in doing genealogy research and familiarize you with some of the lesser-known resources. Mr. Howes ancestors lived in Maine, so he is particularly knowledgeable about this area.
The program starts at 10:00 a.m. and is FREE to all participants. Pre-registration is requested by emailing cantonmehistorical@gmail.com. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. The venue is handicap accessible.
Those who unavailable to attend the workshop but would like individualized assistance are urged to e-mail the address above as well.
